Case Study: Xbox Alerts

Xbox Alerts allows xbox gamers to register and be updated via an SMS when a friend comes online!

Built off the back of Microsoft's public API for it's Live Gamer information, xboxalerts.co.uk is a prime example of an MVC application outputting WAPL.

The site allows users to manage relationships with their online friends, track their progress and even configure sms alerts to their handset. Users can opt to receive alerts during definable hours of the day, for score changes, appearances online and new game arrivals.

Built using Cake PHP, the core engine contains custom built helpers that generate the source WAPL at the view layer. The display is reasonably complex when it comes to displaying user's gamertags. Several images are included and mixed with dynamic data to mimic the onscreen gamercard as closely as possible.

Wapple Exhibit does a great job of turning the WAPL into device-specific markup in realtime. The results to the handset are always astonishing.

The application is an ongoing project. An accompanying website, leaderboards, progress graphs and game matchmaking are some of the many features that are intended for future versions.

Wapple Architect, through WAPL and Exhibit technologies, is the perfect platform for mobilising web applications.
